The Tongue

  by Divya Thumaty

“Did you hear…, did you hear…?”

These waves of words traverse down the hall.

Stories spread like wildfire,

With a little spark here and a little there.

Some are true,

Some are twisted,

Some are torn and tossed around.

Maybe wise, maybe foolish,

Mostly matters that are shattered.

The tongue is a small, sharp weapon---

It cuts deeply, its scars are hard to heal.

No shelter or a shinning shield

Can cover or cure the word-wounded spirit

It is used the most,

Endures the most,

Fights the most,

Attacks the most,

Lies the most.

Like a gun and its loaded bullets,

The tongue and its worded bullets

******
